Why The Name ?
Srisakdi Charmonman IT Center.

HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has kindly blessed the foundation stone of Srisakdi Charmonman IT Center (SCIT Center) on 27 June 2002.

Some may wonder about the purposes of Srisakdi Charmonman IT building. Who was the founder of this program? What are the benefits that can be obtained from it? And why does it have to be under the name of Prof. Dr. Srisakdi? All of these questions will be clarified here.

Rev. Bro. Dr. Prathip Martin Komolmas, the Honorary President of Assumption University has had this project in his mind for years because he would like his students to be provided with the world's best Information Technology Center. This center will contain plenty of facilities and will be located at the University's Bangna campus. It has the following objectives:
  1. To provide Assumption University with the world's leading Information Technology Center.

  2. To make this center the heart of the University's Information Technology community.

  3. To have the largest concentration of Internet terminals at Assumption University and the largest of all the universities in Thailand.

  4. To supply computer and Internet services for students, faculty and staff members as well as the university's former students, 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.

  5. To serve as an incubator for IT-related businesses for former students and other interested persons in starting their own business.

  6. In order to become a center for professional development for the blind, deaf, retired as well as special and young children in the field of Information Technology.

This building will be approximately 10,000 square meters. Altogether, it includes 10 floors:
  • Reception areas and security check points, controlled by a computer system and webcams.

  • The College of Internet Distance Education to offer Bachelor, Master and Doctorate Degrees as well as short courses for anyone, anywhere and at anytime. The aim is to provide services to about 100,000 students per year.

  • The Office of the Vice President of Information Technology and IT-related associations.

  • The Computer Center of Assumption University, together with the main computer room, Internet Network room, the computer repair room, the computer system development room, etc.

  • Alltogether, there will be 2,000 computers in SCIT.

  • Information Technology Training Centers for the blind, the deaf, autistic children and special children from kindergarten level to highschool level, as well as the elderly.

  • Other IT-related Centers such as the Catholic Information Center, the Internet Radio Center, the Digital Library, the Internet and Computer Security Information Center, the Software Certification Center, the Computer Game Information Center. The Information Center for the Study of computer and Internet Impacts on Society, the Software Engineering Information Center, etc.

  • The special Computer Equipment Center and expensive equipment to be shared.

  • The center for expensive software to be shared.

  • The seminar, meeting and conference rooms.

The SCIT Building Project had started from Bro. Martin's broad vision. He has always encouraged his students to seek knowledge all the time, as the saying goes "Learning never ends". The SCIT Building will house the Internet Distance Education College of Assumption University. Prof. Dr. Srisakdi Charmonman is the Chairman of Board of Directors and CEO of the College. It will serve 100,000 students per year, starting from short courses, certificate courses, and Bachelor, Master and Doctorate Degree courses. The courses include: Business Management, Information Technology, Science, Engineering, Sociology and etc.

The Building is named "Srisakdi Charmonman IT Building". This name came from the kindness of Bro. Martin, in order to honour Prof. Dr. Srisakdi Charmonman for his continuous and selfless contributions to Assumption University. Bro. Martin had once announced in church on Christmas day that God has sent Dr. Srisakdi to join hands with him in developing Assumption University to be one of the best academic institutions.

With support from Bro. Martin and Bro. Bancha, the present president, Prof. Srisakdi has made the following contributions to Assumption University:
